Using the organic herbs and spices we stock, Moondrop Herbals Cottage of Natural Elements hand-blends its own line of herb and spice mixes which cannot wait to become your favorite stand-by seasonings.  In addition to Moondrop blends, we are honored to carry and hand-blend  several seasonings created by Cold Brew & BBQ, a local BBQ Pit Master and maker of BBQ and Southwest sauces and seasonings.  Available for purchase in glass containers or, if you wish to save money and planet resources, purchase by the ounce in compostable or recyclable packaging.

Black Sea Salt

Black Salt, or ‘Hiwa Kai’ is a unique Hawaiian black lava salt which is solar evaporated Pacific Sea Salt combined with activated charcoal, giving it the stunning black color and silky texture. The charcoal complements the natural sea salt flavor, giving it a bold and unique taste with smoky overtones while also promoting detoxifying health benefits. Hiwa Kai can give any dish a bold new taste, use on grilled meats, seafood, vegetables, salad, and guacamole.  It is prized for its effects on sushi and teriyaki chicken. In addition, the stunning black color makes it the perfect finishing salt to dress up any dish.

Celtic Salt

Also known as French, or Sel Gris (Grey Salt), Celtic salt is harvested using traditional methods. This prized process is done entirely by hand, using only wooden tools. The texture of this salt lends itself to use as a finishing salt for steaks and roasts and vegetables.  Look for this salt in the Bath & Body department as well.  It makes a wonderful base for body scrubs.

Cold’s Brilliant Bird Brine

Organic herbs for flavor plus beautiful and naturally processed sea and Himalayan salts to allow moisture and seasonings to infuse into the bird.  This mixture weighs over a pound – about twice the amount you find in most packaged brine mixes. Brine 1 large turkey, 2 roaster chickens, or 4 fryer chickens. NOTE: You will need to add 1 3/4 cup of your preferred sugar to total mixture. Benefits of brining: Tender-Moist-FLAVOR!

Red Alaea Salt

Alaea is the traditional Hawaiian table salt used to season and preserve foods. Aleaea is non-processed and is rich in trace minerals, all found in the sea water. A small amount of the natural mineral “Alae” (volcanic baked red clay) enriches the salt with iron-oxide, seals in the moisture, and adds flavor while also giving the salt its distinctively attractive red color. The Hawaiian clay gives the salt a subtle, earthy flavor with a slightly mellower taste than regular sea salt. Alaea is perfect for making tasty spice blends and rubs for meat, and particularly brings out the flavor when roasting or grilling the meat. It’s perfect for pork loin, Kalua Pig, steak, and is also the traditional and authentic seasoning for the native Hawaiian dishes Jerky and Poke.

Cold’s Italian Fusion

A subtle hint of kick and bite is added to a classic blend of Italian herbs. Use in pasta dishes, on chicken and vegetables. Add to oil and vinegar for an Italian salad dressing. Created by local award winning BBQ Pit Master Colton Beveridge.

Organic: Thyme, rosemary, marjoram, oregano, nigella (black seed), parsley, chili flakes, and black pepper. With Sea salt.

Dill Season

Season fish, chicken, pork, steamed vegetables and eggs.  Add to Mediterranean dishes. Try this Dill Dip – Mix 1-3 tablespoons (to taste) in 2 cups of a combination of mayonnaise and sour cream, or  2 cups plain organic yogurt.

Herbes de Provence

This flavorful and floral blend can be used any where Italian seasoning is used.  The lavender and fennel add a surprising twist of extra flavor to pastas, fish, vegetables, and most seafood. I love this on eggs with a little lemon pepper.

Arcadian Grinder Blend

House Szechuan Grinder Blend

Szechuan, a member of the citrus family, is the pod of the fruit.  Contrary to popular belief, szechuan ‘pepper’ is not hot but is often paired with hot spices.  It’s flavor is a complete journey for the palate, moving from salty to zesty to tingling numbness that finishes with salty-sweet-citrus.  It is said to prepare the palate for the heat of its accompanying spices. This custom house blend adds a note of floral and is divine with chicken, duck, and pork.  Try adding to a spicy slaw blend, or even on eggs.

Lemon Pepper Grinder Blend

Pickling Spice

Use in pickle and canning recipes as directed but a general good rule of thumb is 1 – 3TBS per 6 cups of liquid. Note:  This blend is salt free so be sure to add per your recipe.

Savory Pork Taco Mix

I use this delicious blend to slow roast pork in the crock pot. Mix spice blend 1:1 with organic cane or coconut sugar to make the rub for the pork roast.  Start with approximately 2 tablespoons sugar and spice mixture per pound of meat. Add broth, tomato sauce, or salsa to taste.  This blend also works without the added sugar when cooking beef or chicken!

Organic: Cumin, garlic, Cold’s Hot Chili powder, Santa Fe blend, ginger root, paprika, and Herbes de Provence herb blend. With Himalayan Salt

Classic Chili Powder Base Blend

Chili powder’s job is to provide the base flavor, aroma, and color depth to Mexican and Southwest cooking. Your level of heat preference is then added to this through the use of other fresh or dried chili peppers and spices. Start with 1 -2 tablespoons per pound of protein.

Organic: Ancho, paprika, oregano, cumin, garlic, onion, lemon peel, cayenne, and chipotle

Cold’s HOT Chili Blend

Some like it Hot, others are Crazy for Heat. Add as much or as little as you dare to the chili pot or BBQ.  I’m on the High end of wimpy – I add about 1 1/2 teaspoons per pound of protein of Cold’s Hot Chili blend to the classic chili powder base blend to give a level of heat that still allows me to taste the other flavors in my recipe. This blend’s  creator, BBQ Pit Master Colton Beveridge, suggests using 2 tablespoons per pound of protein – he is crazy for heat.

Organic: Smoked paprika, ancho pepper, cumin, chipotle pepper, garlic, oregano, cayenne, coriander, bird’s eye pepper, and parsley

Four Spice Blend

A little heat  with hint of citrus for all your taste buds . . . try infusing just a teaspoon into your burger mixture before grilling for a nice all-around kick of mouthwatering flavor.

Santa Fe Blend

My go-to blend for spicin’ up life.  I sprinkle it in plain organic yogurt to make a dressing for salads, rice bowls, and tacos.  I sprinkle it on popcorn with melted butter and a touch of melted honey.  Perfect in black bean dishes. Add a little sprinkle  when seasoning vegetables to roast.

Sweet & Spicy

Delish in rice dishes and anything with sweet potatoes in it. Sprinkle on sweet potato slices before roasting.

Mixed Spice Baking Blend

A yummy fall and winter baking blend.  Add a little something extra to baked fruits, pies, and spiced cookies. Mix a teaspoon into a cup of organic vanilla yogurt,  add honey to taste, and you have a delightfully healthy fruit dip. My good friend Deb sprinkles this blend as is on sliced apples and other fruits.

Organic: Coriander, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, orange peel, ginger, and clove

Mulling Spice Blend

Mulling Spice is a pungent and warming aromatic blend with spicy and sweet flavors. It can be used for spicing wine, cider, and even homebrews. Use approximately 3 Tbsp to 750ml (25 oz) wine or cider. Simmer for at least 15 minutes and up to 3 hours, strain and add optional sweetener.  Serve warm.
